Mental Health Awareness Week

Mental Health Awareness Week 2024 takes place all throughout this week – Monday 13th to Sunday 19th May.

The theme of the week this year is “Movement: Moving more for our mental health”. Movement is important for our mental health, but so many of us struggle to move enough.

Did you know that RNN Group has its very own gym at Dearne Valley College that is open to the public? You can read more about the gym here

For our staff

A number of our staff members are taking part in wellbeing walks. Whether you are a Worksop Waddler, a Dearne Dawdler or a Rotherham Rambler, you have all contributed to walking over 7.5 million steps!

For staff at the Group, the Bravo Staff Benefits Package includes access to support Health and Wellbeing through the Employee Assistance Programme which also includes a Digital Gym.

For our students

For students, we are running Student Health and Wellbeing Events at every College this week and do so throughout the year.

This is quite a stressful and anxious time for many students sitting exams and we are encouraging everyone to engage with these events this week to help support themselves and each other.

The Student Health and Wellbeing Events include:

  • Support services stalls
  • Workshops on understanding emotions, managing stress, resilience, nutrition and keeping healthy
  • Smaller interactive wellbeing sessions on coping strategies, confidence building and mindfulness
  • A variety of physical activity sessions running throughout including yoga, strength and conditioning and boxing
  • Many other bookable activities such as mindful crafts, student health checks and hair and beauty mini treatments
  • Outside activities including table tennis, darts and a Rodeo Bull!

Top Tip

A top tip for supporting any stressful times before the exams, practise square breathing… which you can do anywhere:

  • Inhale for 4 seconds and visualise a square in your favourite colour, and then as you breathe in visualise moving from left to right across the top of the square.
  • Then hold for the count of 4 seconds and visualise moving down the right hand side of the square whilst counting to 4.
  • Breathe out for 4 seconds as you visualise moving from right to left along the bottom of the square and then finally
  • Hold for 4 seconds as you move up to the top left of the square…

… and repeat as often as you need.
