RNN Group Commit to TUC’s Dying to Work Charter

As of 02/11/2021, RNN Group has added its name to the Dying to Work Charter, which protects rights at work for those facing terminal illness.

The group is the latest employer to sign up to the charter following in the footsteps of employers such as Royal Mail, Co-op and Rolls Royce.

The Charter is part of the Trades Union Congress’ (TUC) campaign which is seeking greater security for terminally ill workers where they cannot be dismissed as a result of their condition.

Dying to Work was taken forward by the TUC following the case of Jacci Woodcook, an area sales manager from Derbyshire who was forced out of her job after being diagnosed with terminal breast cancer.

The TUC is asking employers to sign up to its voluntary Charter to stop cases like Jacci’s happening in the future.

Speaking about RNN Group’s commitment to the Charter, Executive Director of HR, OD and Marketing, Jane Hartog, said: “The Dying to Work Charter is an incredibly important commitment that we are, as an organisation, very proud to have signed up to. At the RNN Group, we recognise that the terminal illness of an employee requires the full support and understanding of us as an employer.

“Our commitment to signing up to the Dying to Work Charter builds on existing policies within the group, which are in place to help employees in these devastating situations.

“We are proud to be part of this incredibly important Charter and look forward to developing the values we share.”

UNISON Nottinghamshire, who work alongside RNN Group in a union capacity, expressed their support for RNN Group’s commitment to the Charter.

A spokesperson said: “UNISON recognises the stability and reassurance that having the charter will provide to staff who find themselves facing the most difficult of circumstances.

“We commit  to working with RNN Group to support any member who needs support as a result of terminal illness.”

TUC Midlands, Regional Secretary Lee Barron commented on RNN Group’s decision to commit to the Charter, saying:

“Your job should be the least of your worries when you get a terminal diagnosis.

“I’m delighted that RNN Group has shown real leadership in this area, working with unions to guarantee fair treatment for terminally-ill workers.

“We now have a million workers being covered by the Dying to Work charter across the country, and we expect more employers to commit in the coming months.”
