RNN Group is proudly supporting Mental Health Awareness Week 2024 with the theme “moving more for mental healthโ€. To showcase the positive impact of physical activity, letโ€™s look back at how our staff embraced movement during their Health and Wellbeing Day last year.

The Importance of Being Active for Mental Health

Being active is important for our mental health, but many of us struggle to get enough exercise.ย We know there are many different reasons for this,ย so this Mental Health Awareness Week we want to help people find moments for movement in their daily routines.ย 

Going for a walk in your neighbourhood,ย putting on your favourite music and dancing around the living room,ย chair exercises while you’re watching television โ€“ it all counts!

RNN Group Commitment to Health and Wellbeing

Health and Wellbeing is crucially important for each and every one of us,ย both in and out of the workplace.ย Workplace health is a commitment of RNN Group to improve the wellbeing of all of our employees and providing opportunities for our employees to be healthy in the workplace is vital.ย 

As part of this commitment all RNN Group and RES employees are given an allocation of time off to do something which impacts in a positive way on their health and wellbeing annually.

Health and Wellbeing Day Allowance

Employees are given an annual allowance based on their contracted working hours.ย Those staff working 18.5 hours or above will receive 1x full day and those working 18.25 hours or below will receive 1x half day.ย This ensures the needs of the business can still be met,ย whilst allowing our workforce time for themselves in a meaningful way.ย 

The allowance period is September to August each year and is voluntary,ย however employees should be encouraged to use their allowance and feel that they are able to use it,ย if they so wish.

How Staff Used Their Health and Wellbeing Day

In total, 309 (just under 50%) staff utilised the day where:

  • 2 people went on a bike ride
  • 33 people went on a family day out
  • 163 people did a general activity
  • 16 people used it to exercise
  • 15 people socialised with friends
  • 25 people went to a spa or for a treatment
  • 55 people went for a walk or hike

Examples of Positive Impacts on Staff Wellbeing

“I went for a walk to the Dovedale Stepping Stones from Ilam Park.ย I walked to the Izaak Walton Hotel for afternoon tea and then explored Ilam Park National Trust grounds.ย At the end,ย on the bridge,ย I asked my partner to marry me.ย She said YES!ย This had a really positive impact on my health and wellbeing.”

“We went fossil hunting because the weather was poor.ย However,ย it allowed me to de-stress and ground myself at the coast.”

“I spent the day taking photos in the snow of my local village,ย and in the afternoon spent some time snow kiting.ย Enjoyed the day relaxing.ย This has had a positive impact on my wellbeing.”

“A visit to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park allowed me to spend quality time with my family, without rushing around.ย This had a positive impact on my mental health and boosted my mood.”

“I went to Studio 62 at Parkgate with my daughter,ย sister,ย and niece to paint-a-pot.ย I chose a large coaster for my desk.ย Although I’m not very artistic,ย I enjoyed designing and painting my pot.ย It was also a great opportunity to socialise with family.”
