โ€‹Construction and Digital learning and development are pivotal to the future of South Yorkshire’s economy due to their substantial contributions to economic growth, infrastructure development, and workforce adaptability.โ€‹

Construction Industry’s Economic Impact

The construction sector plays a significant role in South Yorkshire’s economic landscape. In 2021, the industry employed approximately 27,000 individuals, contributing notably to the region’s Gross Value Added (GVA). Despite a slight employment decline of 3% over recent years, the sector remains integral to the local economy which can be seen more in South Yorkshireโ€™s Plan for Growth.

Beyond employment, construction drives infrastructure development, enhancing transportation networks, public facilities, and housing. These improvements not only elevate residents’ quality of life but also attract investments, fostering economic growth. โ€‹

RNN Group offers Higher Level skills training and courses in Modern Methods of Construction and Engineering alongside Higher and Degree Level training programmes. These are vital to meet industry demands, keeping up with industry changes, improving safety and efficiency as well as progressing economic growth.

Advancing Digital Learning

Digital learning is increasingly vital in preparing South Yorkshire’s workforce for the evolving demands of the modern economy. A shift from traditional industrial-era education to digital-era methodologies is essential to equip individuals with skills pertinent to today’s job market.

Recognising this need, local institutions have initiated programs to enhance digital competencies. For instance, RNN Group offers free digital skills courses aimed at bolstering business growth and employment opportunities in the region. โ€‹

RNN Group offers Digital T Levels which are a new type of technical qualification in England designed for students aged 16-19 who want to pursue a career in the digital and technology sectors. These technical qualifications have been brought in to bridge the skills gap.

Why Digital T Levels Matter for South Yorkshire?

  • Bridges the Digital Skills Gap: South Yorkshire is investing in digital infrastructure and needs skilled workers.
  • Supports Economic Growth: Prepares students for jobs in tech-related fields, boosting the local economy.
  • Improves Employability: Provides real-world experience, making students job-read

Strategic Integration for Economic Growth

Integrating advancements in construction and digital learning aligns with South Yorkshire’s strategic economic objectives. The region aims to become a leading contributor to the Fourth Industrial Revolution by fostering innovation and equipping its workforce with necessary skills which you can read about in the following PDF: โ€‹Sheffield City Regions Strategic Economic Plan 2020-2040

Investments in digital infrastructure further support this vision. The South Yorkshire Digital Infrastructure Strategy emphasises enhancing internet connectivity to drive innovation and economic development.

RNN Group is delighted to be formally opening these facilities that students have been enjoying since the autumn term and prospective families at our recent open events have had a chance to view too and really contributing to supporting students in their education and career journey and our regions economic prosperity too.
