Skills for Employment Week at the RNN Group
Next week is Skills for Employment Week for students at the RNN Group in week 7 of our eight week induction programme.
Power skills are crucial within todayโs workforce, the definition of power skills is a set of transferable and in-demand competencies / skills that can help individuals be successful in a rapidly changing work environment.
It is important to realise that although academic qualifications get you an Interview, having good power skills / transferable skills is what gets you the job. Learners will need those specific skills which include turning up at the right place and right time (which involves good self-management and time management), communicate well with the interviewer, problem solve or be creative on the spot if asked a question that the learner has not been prepared for; be resilient if a job offer is not forthcoming and proactive about applying for more jobs.
Students at Rotherham College, North Notts College and Dearne Valley College will be able to enjoy lots of workshops and information sessions on work experience, CV support, UCAS Support and Apprenticeships to support them with getting the interviews they need. ย
However, we are also launching a new initiative, Skills for Employment (backed by local employers) to support our learners with their power skills / transferable skills to help them get the job they want and also give learners the skills they need and support local employers with their requirements for employees both now and in the future too.
We will also be promoting the importance of LinkedIn to learners and setting up an account for professional networking, job search and recruitment, personal branding, professional development, industry insights and news and career growth.
This scheme is endorsed by the following local and regional businesses:
We also have a number of external speakers talking on specific power skills โ some listed above – as well as a workshops on each campus around confidence building which is crucial to supporting learners develop power skills and face to face interaction.
Finally, teachers and staff will be embedding the 10 power skills in their lessons and interactions with learners during the week, to help reinforce what they have learnt from the many workshops and information sessions available to them throughout the week.
